Construction Manager

SUMMARY

The Construction Manager provides support to 5 Bars Services LLC, a Telecom and Utility Construction Company. The Manager is responsible for the overall completion of projects related to underground and aerial construction in accordance with company policies and safety-related procedures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of construction projects and employees for the operating unit.

  • Responsible for safe work practices and implementing company safety programs for all subordinates.

  • The ability to operate drill equipment and various other equipment in conjunction with drilling duties (Directional Drill, Hydro Vac, Excavator, etc.) if necessary.

  • Responsible to read locate paint or locate flags of utility placement and possess the ability to "read the job layout" including valves and meter housings that may or may not have been located.

  • Ensures Company assets (vehicles, equipment, tools, etc.) are properly and continuously maintained in good repair and secured in a safe manner.

  • Reads blueprints and organizes materials and other resources as necessary to complete excavation requirements, which may include basic hand tools.

  • Maintains bore logs.

  • Responsible for aiding in own self-development by being available and receptive to any training made available by the company.

  • Plans daily activities within the guidelines of company policy, job description and managers instruction in such a way as to maximize personal output.

  • Responsible for keeping own immediate work area in a neat and orderly condition to ensure safety of self and coworkers. Will report any unsafe conditions and/or practices to the appropriate supervisor and human resources. Will immediately correct any unsafe conditions to the best of own ability.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • High school diploma or GED and five (5) years’ experience and/or training operating a direction drill or trenching equipment; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • More than five (5) years’ of related training and managerial experience.

  • Three (3) years’ of experience as a Directional Drill Locator.

  • Proven track record of leading a large construction organization.

CERTIFICATES / LICENSES / REGISTRATION

  • Valid Class A Driver’s License Required or ability to acquire within 90 days

  • Must be able to pass pre-employment screening that includes background and drug testing

  • CDL Preferred

  • Ability to identify and use the tools required for maintaining and servicing the drill, drill stem, and rack as well as the ability to diagnose and/or relay any problems to a certified repair technician

  • Ability to read and interpret construction and engineering plans

  • Ability to research land and plat information and communicate design prints

  • Ability to accurately sketch and record field notes and computations for as-builts

  • Ability to perform and/or instruct entry-level skills and practices as required

  • Ability to read, comprehend and carry out instructions

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

  • Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.

  • Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
